Summary

Gerald of Wales (c. 1146-c. 1223), the son of a Norman baron and the grandson of a Welsh princess, was a great Welsh patriot and one of the most gifted and entertaining of medieval writers. His historical works on Wales and Ireland have long been available in translation, but his even more remarkable autobiography had never been translated before the appearance of this edition.
