Summary

FROM THE NEW YORK TIMESBEST-SELLING AUTHORS OF THREE SECONDS... Moving, harrowing, disturbing--the return of Three SecondsDetective Inspector Ewert Grens combines a hard-hitting plot with a dark, multilayered narrative and a killer twist. John Meyer Frey rots on Death Row in Utah for murdering a girl when he was 17. The victim's father hungers for revenge, while a prison guard is torn by his compassion for the young man. Both see their hopes thwarted when Frey dies of heart disease before Frey is either justly punished or attains redemption. Across the Atlantic, on a ferry between Finland and Sweden, John Schwarz sees a drunken lout harassing a woman and beats the man so badly he ends up hospitalized. On the surface, it looks like a barroom brawl, nothing more--but to Ewert Grens something seems wrong. Following his suspicions, Grens finds himself drawn into an investigation that shocks him to the core and blows open the death penalty debate--and the wider conflict between public justice and private revenge.

Author Biography

Award-winning journalist Anders Roslund and ex-criminal Börge Hellström are Sweden's most acclaimed fiction duo. Their unique ability to combine inside knowledge of the brutal reality of criminal life with searing social criticism in complex, intelligent plots has put them at the forefront of modern Scandinavian crime writing. In 2009, Three Seconds was awarded the Swedish Academy of Crime Writers' Award for Swedish Crime Novel of the Year, previously won by both Stieg Larsson and Henning Mankell, and it was a top 10 bestseller in Sweden for eight months and went on to become a bestseller in the US.
