Traditionally people would get this information from meetings, associations, insurance companies or by word-of-mouth when others are fined. Whitford says these methods provide only bits and pieces and dont answer all questions about regulations affecting businesses. For a company to comply with regulations, owners and managers must know what the regulations are, what they are obligated to do and how they should do it. Kay Nobbe, with HyGrade Excavating of Greensburg, Ind., oversees an effort by her company to ensure compliance with all regulations that affect the business. She contacted Whitford, and he suggested his book as an aid in identifying which regulations apply to them. "I think its been very well written," Nobbe says. "We are trying to become OSHA compliant, and were using it to benefit us in other aspects of our business, as well." Whitford says most people want to be in compliance, and will make the changes necessary when they know how.
