Summary

Dr. Jan R. Adams has over sixteen years of training in aesthetic surgery from some of America's finest institutions and performs hundreds of cosmetic surgery procedures a year. He felt compelled to write a book that would address the concerns of women of color after hearing numerous complaints from frustrated women, unable to find any book in the marketplace that held vital information for their specific cosmetic surgery questions. Although there are dozens of plastic surgery books on the shelves today, not one of them is specifically tailored to address the concerns facing women of color. In fact there is virtually no place these women can turn to get information about their particular aesthetic problems. They age differently from Caucasian women and have unique skin problems such as scarring, hyperpigmentation, and blotchy skin. Dr. Adams will help take the anxiety out of cosmetic surgery by providing detailed information in a reader friendly format that will calm any anxieties and arm consumers with useful information. He will address such issues as * Choosing the right aesthetic surgeon for you. When selecting a doctor, it is important to make sure your surgeon has the knowledge and expertise to treat your specific concerns. * What to expect before surgery - the various pre-operative visits and tests, what medications to avoid. * What to expect post-operatively, a reassuring guide to the many stages your mind and body will pass through the weeks after surgery. Dr. Adams will also include actual cases of women who sought various procedures and the choices he offered them. He will also provide chapters detailing the majority of procedures sought by women of a specific age. Women in twenties - are usually interested in rhinoplasty, breast reduction and breast augmentation. The thirties are an interesting time and women are usually looking to rejuvenate their figures after childbirth. They are usually the biggest candidates for abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), liposuction, and mastopexy (breast lift). The forties are an age where many women will see the first signs of facial aging. Procedures discussed in this chapter include browlifts and eyelid surgery. The Fifties are typically the period where women elect to have facelifts, and the Sixties are traditionally a time of touch-ups, where it is recommended to get small procedures done when appropriate, in order to avoid that "tight masked" look. This book celebrates the beauty and diversity of women of color. It will help you look and feel your best, and can serve as a blueprint for being healthy, vital, and youthful at any age.
