Summary

Modern dance concepts, terms, principles, and movements are defined in the words of the great founders of modern dance. Prepared originally through personal interviews with Doris Humphrey, Hanya Holm, Martha Graham, Charles Weidman, Isadora Duncan, and other established figures, this collection of defined terms represents the aims, theories, and objectives of modern dance and will give new ranks of dancers a sense of belonging to and continuing the traditions of the pioneer artists.

Author Biography

Paul Love, artist and critic, was manager of dance recitals of The New School for Social Research and variously dance editor for the New York World Telegram, Theatre Guild Magazine, Modern Music Quarterly, and New Theatre Magazine. He later became director of the Kresge Art Center Gallery at Michigan State University.
