Summary

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Three young people flee from a life with no future or hope in Europe and try to make their way in the violent and corrupt city of Buenos Aires in 1913.

Raquel, whose gaze is hidden behind a fringe of dark curls, dreams of working in a bookstore although the girls from her village, buried under the snow of the Russian steppe, are not even allowed to learn to read.

Rosetta has inherited a piece of land that she tries to work alone, but she suffers daily attacks and humiliations from her neighbors, convinced that a woman cannot live without a husband.

And Rocco, the son of a man of honor, is destined to follow in his footsteps and become a mobster himself.

These three young people know that escape is the only way they’ll be free: flee as far as possible, to the other side of the ocean. But when they arrive in Buenos Aires, full of hope, they soon learn that Argentina is a no man's land and that, to survive, migrants have to accept the inconceivable and women, in a city full of lonely and unscrupulous men, must pay an even higher price.

Furthermore, between the raucous port and neighborhood streets the dangers and ghosts of the past hide. But Raquel, Rocco, and Rosetta are willing to do anything to save themselves and live a life without fear.
