Author Biography


Rosalind Hursthouse, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, University of Auckland

Rosalind Hursthouse is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Auckland. She has held visiting positions at the University of California, Los Angeles (1981, 1983), the University of California, San Diego (1988, 1989), the University of Auckland (1991), the University of North Carolina,
Chapel Hill (1993), Stanford (1996), and the University of California, Berkeley as Mills Distinguished Visiting Professor in Moral and Intellectual Philosophy and Civil Polity (2004). In 2016 she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. Her work has played an integral role in
establishing virtue ethics as a distinctive approach in ethical theory and remains influential in the field today. She published her notable work, On Virtue Ethics, with Oxford University Press in 1999.

Julia Annas is Regents Professor of Philosophy, Emerita, at the University of Arizona. She is the founding Editor of Oxford Studies in Ancient Philosophy and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society. She has published many titles with Oxford
University Press, including Virtue and Law in Plato and Beyond (2017), Intelligent Virtue (2011) and Plato: A Very Short Introduction (2003).

Jeremy Reid is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at San Francisco State University. He has written chapters on Plato for the works Plato's Symposium: A Critical Guide (Cambridge University Press, 2017) and The Routledge Handbook of Love in Philosophy (Routledge, 2019).
